You're not required to accept my thesis, but the whole point of discussion is to, well, discuss, which involves multiple points of view.

Fixed, just for you guys.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on either side who's offered concrete examples, so perhaps you might understand why I don't take your argument too seriously.

Both of you, where exactly are these "people".

If you're going to make "factual" claims please have the good grace to back them up.

Cheers,
Bob.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Sure it resembles SCAR rifle, but the outside design is just a part of the weapon. I mean, the inner mechanisms and solutions might be (and i'm quite sure they are) pretty different. This rifle has been taylor made to suit the needs of the Czech army. The main ammunition used in our army are still the soviet type 7,62 magazines, but the Czech forces are now participating on NATO operations together with other nations, where various amunition types are used - therefore CZ 805 is a multicaliber rifle. With a simple kit, soldier can change the caliber of the rifle directly on the battlefield, so he can use 5,56x45mm, 6,80x43mm or 7,62x39mm magazines. It'll also come in 4 variants: carabine, compact, light machine gun and sniper and our forces will obtain about 8.000 of these in total. But as far as I know, Czech soldiers are not very keen of having a new rifle as they are still prefering the trusted SA vz.58.

It looks like a pretty cunning design - espeically the fully modular mag well/chamber/barrel so any version of the rifle can be changed to any other version quickly and easily - though I do wonder if this is a feature to appeal to civilian shooters (the prospect of a 6.8mm SPC version furthering this, Unless the Czechs are making the next STANAG call early. Then again, they've been awfully hush-hush about the whole rifle so it may not see a "civilized" version in the near future) rather than a practical military application (though I suppose it will save on transition costs when the Czech army is fully STANAG'd).

One concern I do see with the design is that it appears the weapon cannot be fired while the stock is folded (at least not by rightys) - while not a major issue (and many would no doubt argue that one shouldn't be firing with the stock folded anyway) there are certain applications where that might be a life taker - eg bailing out of a burning vehicle in an urban environment, one might not have time to unfold before suppressive fire is required - if the user panics they may simply forget to unfold initially.

In other news from the Czech arms industry, theres a new SMG doing the rounds, the Skorpion EVO III A1 (No relation to the Skorpion Vz.61/64/65/68/61 E/82/83 & CZ91S family, so its obviously using the name for marketing - no doubt both "pistol" and "carbine" semi-auto variations will appear on the US market soon). manufacturer's webpage

On the subject of liking the good ol' Vz. 58 better, well, even the newest ones are getting a bit long in the tooth these days (New ones havent been produced since 1984 sauce), so they'll have to be replaced sooner or later. At least with the '805 they'll be seen to be conforming to NATO standard while being able to use up thier stocks of 7.62x39mm.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

On one specialized board, I've read that the semi-auto version will be availible for public, but god knows when since the army needs are more important ofc. Anyway, the other company named Czech Small Arms are now producing the inovated vz.58 (SA vz.58 E Sporter) in 5.54x45mm for public users.

Best rifle for a regular and trained soldier is AR15/M16/M4 style rifle.
Since CZ people never go to war after they helped the germans to fight the hungarians somewhere at the year 850... or so they dont need own rifles. But maybe someone buy them in east europe to replace the old AK. Good Luck.

and why is that? i know some soldiers who dislike the AR15 design and would take an AK over it anyday.
