if anything, the entire military industrial complex needs a massive overhaul, the sheer amount of money the US spends on a single failed/unfeasable project like the OICW/xm8, F22, comanche, laser plane, DDX, missile interceptors etc, often exceeds the military budgets of entire countries and more often than not turns up with nothing. absolutely rediculous

the pentagon should be deciding what the military needs, not the contractors and their lobbyists. fat chance of that ever happening though, costs are likely to continue spiralling without any physical result..

That's the American government for ya.

But I find this very practical and inexpensive as compared to MOST things.

Thing is though, is that the soldiers would prefer new SAW's. Instead the government is wasting money giving it to arms companies without thinking of the soldiers. So its a bad waste of money, as cheap as it is.

Well it has been stated in this thread, and in the links posted that soldiers would prefer newer SAW's instead of rifles with stronger barrels.

You know what would be even more practical and inexpensive? Repairing and upgrading our existing SAWs.

Remember the last time the US tried to adopt something made by H&K? Yeah you do. They want to suck taxpayers money dry and create new things that don't need to be made.

Platoon 2nd-in-command, actually. And that makes two of us.

But but but progress!

Heh. Well, let's see how long this change lasts.

And I can't wait to laugh at the videos of Marines shooting their broken, unusuable, and discharged IARs with their newly reissued and loved M249s.

I mean just look at it, the IAR will not be any good. 30 Round mags, Closed bolt, short barrel, and a flimsy M4 style stock. You're gonna run out of magazines pretty darn quick in a longer firefight. Then look at the M249, its a Heavy, long barrel, accurate LMG. Its not the best ever, but where its not bad at, its really good at. All you'll have to do is some improments, Keep the stock, give it the PARA Barrel, Give it some rails, make the receivers out of lightweight material as the Mk 46 is made of.

In fact, implement a Long barrel version ofthe Mk 46 and our problems are virtually solved.
