ive seen round various places that royal marines are trialling the 417 as a DM rifle.
Heckler & Koch HK417 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia wiki.... yayayaya but still. Any one got some other information on this or some "inside" info (duckhunt?) |

Nah, the HK417 wont be seeing service with the British armed forces, they're getting the LM&T LM7. Following the trials it was decided not to adopt the 417.
But have a photo of a marine clutching a '417 anyway. ![]() This is the weapon that'll be issed to "big army" units: http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/r...162009-018.jpg |

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

look at him, how happy he is
what is the LM&T LM7? searching for it on google leads me to this thread somewhere else it states that it's a new DMR rifle for the Uk, so the 417 wouldnt've been purchased as an assault rifle in the first place? |

Old thread, yeah, but just saying, the cited source for the Royal Marines using the 417 only mentions SAS and SBS using it, so yaah.
E: having looked around a wee bit, here is a pic with a dude holding what looks like Bob's rifle: http://soldiermagazine.co.uk/images/...065-0049_2.jpg http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/8092/britspr.jpg http://www.arrse.co.uk/Forums/viewto...iewresult.html That site offers a little bit. |

That's not it, mate. Looks more like some sort of modified M16 - a SAM-R or equivalent. Look at the RIS, which is different from the one Bob posted (which I've never heard of, TBH).

Apparently reading from that site, the one that Bob posted is a Civi version, the L7 is a militarised version of it. But I really don't know, and I'm not a gun nut at all
E: I did more digging. The picture's I had were just USMC SAM-Rs, not L7s. The Brits are supposedly getting around 50 L7s. http://www.gunsandammomag.com/cs/Sat...Weapon+System+ <- L7 site. http://www.arrse.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/p=2980252.html <- a lot of people allegedly know a lot of things here... |

There was a thread on ARRSE I was looking for which discussed this but I can't find it. Basically what Bob says is correct for our new DMR although the LSW will still be around for some time.

Apparently, lead is not good for you if ingested, at any velocity. And whilst I'm here, you're not a PC and Windows 7 wasn't your idea, live with it!!! |
