The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

The power of a few PR forum-goers is disturbing.

LM7s are what we are getting. 417s did not turn out as favourable as the LM7 in trails.
PS) search engine optimisation ftw :@) |

UK selects 7.62 mm Sharpshooter weapon for Afghan ops
http://www.lewismachine.net/media/MR...tionManual.pdf 16 inch quick change barrels (stainless steel) 7.62mm semi-auto 20 round mag Not sure if it's going to be running match grade ammo. Probably will be tbh, the L96's wont need it any more and will still have the logistical setup in-theatre already. However, it is primarily specced to perform well with plain 7.62 ball. From what's been said, our version will have a different bipod, retractable buttstock, foregrip (folds beneath the stock) shorter than issue IW. Optics will apparently be 6xACOG, I'm guessing for minimal transition training from IW to L129A1. The L129A1 uses a forged one piece aluminium upper receiver. This acts as a massive heatsink. Consequently, a higher rate of fire can be achieved, with a lower temperature rise than with comparable 7.62mm weapons. There's been some daft rumours about having to swap barrels every 100 rds/5 mags. This is apparently not true. It appears that the barrel swap system is an ability, not a requirement, and that thousands of rounds can go down it without swapping. It allows full 'sniper' barrels as well as CQB barrels. The info above is reportidly straight from Greg Felton, owner of LMT, as well as this image of the L129A1: ![]() slap a 6x ACOG on top and an M4 foregrip and that's what the finished article will look like. The barrel will also be black and with a different flash eliminator. We're getting these this year, so I'm guessing we'll be fielding them for the first time en masse when I'm out in Sept. |

So are the LSWs redundant when these are implemented?

When hasn't the LSW been redundant?
Also interesting that they chose a direct gas weapon. Cleaning it constantly should be lots of fun. Any word on the training programme for the new weapon? Or if section commanders will be trained on how best to use it? |
