No problem, I didn't think you were. I have pointed the aforementioned DEV to this post; he may tell us more about any potential range reduction from suppressors.

Depending on the range of the target (you will not see a suppressor used for shots over 900yds) the drop off in velocity is negligible. We're talking a difference of 20-35ft/lbs over an unsuppressed weapon at 800yds when using .308 caliber ammunition. Some systems with integral suppressors reduce that even more so as the longer can on the weapon helps retain muzzle velocity more effectively with less fouling on the internal baffles (meaning they can also put down more rounds before requiring disassembly and cleaning).

Unfortunately, after 900yds the bleed off becomes exponential and therefore unreliable for first shot placement.

So just wondering, does this mean suppressors on sniper kits is doable? especially since PR's range is limited to less than 900m anyhow.

While we are on the subject, they are shortening the barrel and changing the ROT of the riffling as well making the bullet more ballistics stable over distance. I can't remember exactly what the new ROT is but I know the chart looked pretty impressive. There is still no deadlier round than a .308 165 grain.

I thought the deadliest round was a .408?
Not as heavy as a .50 but with more range and better stabillity.

It all gets very hazy, especially when talking about things like the .408 Cheytac, which very much blurs the line between anti-material and anti-personell (personally if asked to call it one way or the other I'd put it in the AM camp). When it comes to anti-personell the round thats in vouge at the moment is the .338 Lapua

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

yeah, it was a vague comment. Let me rephrase. More snipers have more kills with a .308 165 grain bullet than with all other bullets combined. Ballistics are fantastic. Carlos Hathcoc held the world record with this round and was only beaten by a .50...
