The other day I went to my local Navy unit (Interveiw for NROTC
It's called the Naval Working Uniform. It's similar to the ACU or MARPAT, only instead of being a practical color, it's blue! That's right. BLUE! Like the ocean! And according to wiki: Quote:
So what's the point of this a new BLUE digital camo pattern? Isn't that completely worthless? Because isn't the point of camo in the first place to blend units into their surrondings? Or am I the only one skeptical about this? ![]() Source: Uniforms of the United States Navy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | |

Because camo uniforms are the "in" thing with the US armed forces at the moment, regardless of how silly it looks (Ref - See ACU and ABU).

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Well, you could possibly justify it as being similar to more traditional urban or night-time patterns, and considering that most US naval bases are likely to be built-up areas... there's a slim argument that in event of an attack on a shore facility, it might not be too hideously bright and obvious.
A slim argument. 'kay, so I'm playing devil's advocate... it's a silly uniform. |

That thing is crazy..
You really only have two choices, you either do olive drab, or actual camo. Thats my opinion. |

Morale. With all the other branches getting 'feel good' camouflage (USMC emblem in MARPAT), the Navy was feeling left out.
They want all the other branches to know how much pride they have. -REad |

It also says that theres 3 versions
"However, the NWU will also be made in three variants: predominately blue, with some gray, for the majority of sailors and shipboard use; and a woodland digital pattern and a desert digital pattern for Sailors serving in units requiring those types of uniforms. Woodland and desert variants may be tailored differently than the blue-pattern uniform." |

I can see stuff like the CADPAT, MARPAT and the ACU, with the reduced infrared signature or something (don't quote me on that), but for the Navy? Hm...do Navy SEAL's use the current navy camo or can SF choose their own camo for the mission?
