Default Replacement for cage armour?

Link

This is supposed to be a considered replacement (not a 100% replacement) for cage/slat/bar armour. Says in the article it's been deployed by British forces but what it means by that I'm not entirely sure. It's apparently 50% lighter and (something for those bean counters) 85% cheaper than steel cage armour with the same protection levels as cage armour.

Interesting as it's made of fabric/various textiles.

Any thoughts?

Edit: Best add a picture

WTF? Since when were the MOD hiring the Tate Modern to design their SLAT armour?
I think whats more interesting is the lack of security precaution in the scene in the background. Some shoddy barbed wire and flaking wooden fencing. Probly blew all the cash on the abstract artist.
CLASSY!

Yay, berlin brigade ftw!
Looks quite interesting, although im still not quite sure how it works.
Does it catch the grenade or does it ignite before any contatct with the armor.

AmSafe says that the material used in Tarian is fully flame retardant, which is very important if the RPG’s explosives are triggered but its plasma jet doesn’t form correctly. DSTL also says that the vehicle has been tested against “petrol bombs,” aka. “Molotov Cocktails.” It’s also highly resistant to abrasion and cutting, which is necessary for an attachment that’s guaranteed to take a certain amount of punishment in the rigors of use.
Seems to be 'disarming' the projectile when it makes contact by stopping it functioning in the way it would if it were to penetrate.

how would it hold up to bullets? I'm thinking that if bullets pierce it and mainly rip it, then all you would need to do to disable it would be fire a MG on it for a few seconds before firing a RPG at it, the MG would possibly shred the canvas stuff up, leaving the vehicle open to RPG attack?

Thou bullets may just make a tiny little hole and nothing more
