Seriously, folding stock fully deployed is the same size as the fixed stock, should be no problem with rifle drill. As for shootability, I recently had the opportunity to do a CQB house clearing drill with a fixed stock M16 then a M4 style stock on a AC556 (Mini-14) and WOW, suddenly I'm really a fan of the folding stock. I ran the drill with the stock set to where I'd normally leave it, then the instructor had me shorten it up 2 notches and found the weapon pointed and swung so much more easily. I'm a big fan now. I do worry that that style of stock might not hold up to multiple upper cuts of the buttstock, but if you can swing the muzzle on target faster then you won'd need to do as many butt smashes to the face of people who get inside your weapon.

By folding stock you mean telescoping stock, right?

I would assume a few millimeters of wobble in a stock would not effect the overall accuracy because the sight is still calibrated to the same point as the barrel. Plus, won't the wobble be negated even more because it is firmly braced between the shoulder and the soilder's grip on the rifle? I've noticed stock wobble have very little effect on keeping what your aiming with steady. Also, I don't want to compare airsoft to RL, but I do play airsoft with an M4 replica. The collapsible stock does not have any noticable wobble. Won't be suprised if it was the same with a collapsible stock on an M16...

As of right now the use of a collapsable stock is not authorized in the USMC on the standard M16a4 rifle. This guy who did this most likely was told to put his original stock on. The USMC fights as one and 1 person cannot simply change how their rifle looks, everyone has the same rifle except for SGT and above and Fire members (machine gunners). Some companies have fully switched to the M4a3 already. The US military has this nasty habit of not letting us bring our own equipment/ making improvements in them other than weapon sights and optics.
However they let spec ops do just about what ever they want, but why would this guy be spec ops with a M16a4? If they did/ would do this I think it would cost way to much money for the corps...they are already spending most of their money on the new AAV or EFV. That is their main concern as of right now |
