tl;dr - Head of the USMC doesnt want to switch to the collapsible stock on the M16 because its less reliable, not as good for hitting people in the face and may break when used to lift people up.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

A collapsible stock seems kind of odd on a M16 of all weapons, I think I'd rather have it a solid buttstock..

The issue being that when a soldier is equipped with body armor and LBE it is difficult to shoulder an A2 length stock and use the optic.

They could invest in Sully stocks.

They could change the stock then issue a club.

It's not about the looks, it's a matter of convenience. The Canadians realized this after fighting in Afghanistan so they created the C7A2, which has a collapsible stock. And besides, I don't think it looks bad :P

or just use the adjustable m110 stock from KAC?

on my AR-10 I'm building, I'm using the KAC RIS, and KAC adjustable stock off the m110, 20 inch barrel etc.

my cousins a marine. he never liked the collapsible stocks in general.

Why not do what the British did with the old L1A1 and have several different lengths of stock to fit different users? While it doesn't have all the flexibility of having a collapsible it does does mean the user keeps the advantages of the full stock while having a length of pull more suited to them.

Bob I hate to say it but somewhere out there is a Marine armorer who wants to punch you in the nads for suggesting that....
