Default Negligent Discharge.

I'm not sure of the reputable source of this, one so i'm posting to see if i can establish one.

Any thoughts?

Discharging a sidewinder on the deck, has to get you on a serious charge surely.

credits to the IMAGE url website for the find.

This site - The Gun Zone -- Sidewinder on the Loose thinks it happened as the Hornet hooked onto the cable on landing. I'm not sure though - struggling to find any solid references of the incident and suspect it may be a PS job...

Even if you can only see the back of his head, you know the expression on the deck crew's face is priceless :P

As for discharge, I would doubt it, depending upon what occurred.

Sadly its true..it can occasionally end in death.
One time I was sleeping in some training base, during the night an armor crew moved in to sleep.
Middle of the night when everyone are sleeping..I and everyone else awake to a really loud bang - turns out someone went to sleep with a magazine inside his weapon and it somehow got cooked and discharged.
In the morning we saw the bullet hole in the wall - it was one of the most shocking things as it could have easily ended in death.

If I remember correctly the pilots were doing nighttime training strafing runs with night vision goggles. The pilots wingman would lase the target with an IR laser, and the pilot apparently checked some systems and went to look at the target and saw the headlights of the truck and shot thinking it was the lased target. That's pretty much what I remember from reading about it a few months ago.

The driver and passenger were damn lucky he was using training ammo anyway

Hm...maybe the impact of F16 rounds on the vehicles in PR should be upped a bit?
