Any difference in accuracy between a quality semi-auto and a bolt action would be undetectable by the shooter. There are far greater variables at play when you are shooting in a real-world situation than what type of action the weapon uses. Shooting from the bench at a rifle range with perfect weather conditions might allow you to see the difference between a 1moa and a 1/2moa rifle, but in the real world you will never shoot that accurate anyway.

Mmmmm, a juicy "versus" thread. I'll let it slide because actually it's a proper question rather than "which do you think is better", thought

Ie, I'll rename the thread lol.

also bear in mind that no energy (from the bullet) is used to cycle the bolt thus allowing the bullet to travel faster.

(thats basic physics there)

Lethality..umm..its the bullet & the barrel not the mechanism that cooks the weapon after each shot.
the older bolt action rifles have some sort of build in magazine magazine:

An internal magazine being refilled by a clip, just my 2 cents

YouTube - British Royal Marine Snipers (the Best') - documentary (HQ) - 01/02 - 2:17

This video explains a bit, especially for being a sniper, if you can take the round out yourself, it's not necessarily more accurate first time, but the next time, you will not have moved as much as a normal semi auto rifle.

Just to add you can also have a better idea of where you casings are going as you can take the round out yourself. As a sniper i was told by a ex RGJ sniper (so been out a bit) that your have to keep your casings as too leave no sign of you being there. This could be different in a battle group and being used as a part of a infantry section by in the sniper pair on your own then this could come into effect.

Would i need to source this if i was told by the man himself? if so just say dont give infractions please?

I always assumed bolt-action was better because thre was less damage to the bullet as it is being chambered. In a semi-automatic firearm, the bolt "strips" the top bullet out of the magazine, and the bullet collides with various pieces inside the gun as it is being pushed by the bolt until it reaches the chamber. These collisions make small scrapes in the bullet that, while insignificant, I assume can make a difference at longer ranges. In a bolt-action firearm, the bullet is shoved straight forward into the chamber without these collisions.

No source, that is a conclusion that I came to by myself. It most certainly can be wrong.

The way I always figured it, the bolt action makes you take your time. You aren't just pulling the
trigger, you are more fully involved with the act of shooting. Which helps you keep your focus on maintaining good control of your body and weapon. Allowing for more accurate shooting.

The reason bolt action rifles appear more powerful in games is simply because they have lesser rate of fire. So they have to make up for that by being more powerful. It's for balancing.

Just my 2cents, personal experience and conclusions.

When I was in the Army cadets (too old now and Air cadets failed) the grenadier guards came down to us and let us play with their Kit, they brought an SA80, 51mm Mortar, L86 LSW, L9 9mm and an L96 Sniper rifle.

One of the cadets had been playing Vice city too much and asked why dont they use a semi auto sniper and the gren guard said that bolt actions are most reliable for pint point accuracy, i'm sure semi auto is just for convinence.
