The idea and technology is, way of speaking, not new. But the accuracy of this grenade launcher is incredible! Could be a really deadly weapon on the field if...

Old news :P
Probably posted long ago, but I'm too lazy to dig it up The metal storm weapons systems show a lot of promise, but I think they're just too complex for full scale field use. |

Argg, my bad, I searched with "grenade launcher" and some other things but so many threads and not this one.
I just thought about "metal storm" and found plenty of threads! Sorry about that >_<' Quote:

Oh they're insanely lethal but with a mechanical system, it's relatively easy to maintain; tear apart, clean, lube, rebuild. With the electronic system, there is far, far more to go wrong, both with the (admittedly limited amount of) mechanical side and the software.
See Hitman's sig to for the foreseen results of combining advanced software with military applications. Besides that, the more complex something is, the less squaddie-proof it becomes. Give a squaddie a rifle with a delicate computer system onboard and he'll immediately drop it and cause all those little bits of silicon and soldering to come undone and fall out... Another thing is that all the metal storm weapons I've seen have had the projectiles pre-stacked within the barrel. That would make reloading a bitch; right now a magazine is a handy, hand-sized item that holds bullets. When it's empty, you push a button and it comes out, then whack another in and more bullets come out of the shooty end of the gun. A soldier can easily carry a good quantity of these, resulting in a large ammo supply and easy reloading. With the MS system, would squaddies have to cart around half a dozen ungainly barrels on patrol to reload? Or even worse a load of loose ammo and return to the days of 200 years ago and end up using muzzle-loading rifles again? For vehicles it may work alright, but I can't see a soldier in the field running around with an MS base weapon. |

I can't even imagine soldiers using it, UGL or static grenade launcher are enough to send hell to the ennemies! Quote:
Like I said it's not new (way of speaking). This idea of several bullets in the same barrel came up during middle age but of course didn't work well. (pretty dangerous) Today, I think it's still difficult to use for bullets! But for grenades it's ok as it's bigger and more easy to handle.

wouldnt accuracy of the first bullet be less than the last since it has fewer barrel to go trough?
To me as a noob it seems alright. Altough I agree on the electronic argument, mechanical weapons also fail. As said in that futureweapons video. So it seems that both have ups and downs. And instead of carrying magazine's you'd carry barrels? At least the pistol barrels look a lot easier to store than those blocky magazines right? |
