I think overall this is some good moves, most of it makes seance for the current conflicts and future thou ye, right now they should be just looking at finishing there current conflicts which they appear to be doing. Looks like the US has learnt a few lessons from Vietnam too.

LMAO! Ye it was pretty funny, they could have simply launch a tomahawk missiles at them or many other options, and even if they had to use jets cos they where always moving or w/e, they could have got some very high explosive bombs such as a JDAM or w/e and dropped it right ontop of them, instead of using Anti-Air missiles that are designed to only carry just enough punch to take out a jet....

Appears to make sense...and tell me about the F-16, it's the one Belgium uses. Guess how many we sent to Afghanistan to help out NATO (which caused a pretty big political fuzz here)?

Four. We sent -four- F-16s to help out in Afghanistan. Big help.

only 4? that's not even a squadron, unless you guys have extra small ones or something?

That dont make any seance unless there is some limiting factor of how many jets they have can operational over there due the amount of fuel they can get into the area each month or something.

also about the merlin, i could be wrong but i think our military really prefers to design and build as much of our own stuff as we can, and try to keep military imports to a minimum. but yeah i agree it would have been a better idea to just go with the merlin.
Well yeah, US corporations would have got about 60-70% of the work to build the new airframe. Looks good to keep US businesses and jobs going, even though you're basically looking at a functioning wheel, saying "that's just what we need", then buying 35% of a whole bunch of wheels and asking some other guy to re-design and make the remaining 65%...

Defence procurement makes the guy I spoke to this morning (who apparently saw a Nimrod explode yesterday and who remembers me from the French Resistance) look sane.

What? this has to be wrong guise. I looked through that budget like ten times now. Not once did I see "XM8" on there. Is the pentagon stoopid or something?

They've gone with the option to buy two million more M1913 RIS, two hundred thousand buckets and a thousand litres of glue, instead....
