Question about optics in the US military

These days the US marines/army has a variety of different optics like the ACOG, M68 aimpoint, reflex etc and it seems like most soldiers have an optic of some kind. So Im curious how does the military decide who gets optics and what kinds? Do the soldiers get to choose? And I do know alot of soldiers buy optics with their own money, but Im not talking about that here Im talking about the optics the military gives to the troops.

in army.....usually squad leader and above get acog. everyone else has m68 or eotech and its random if u get m68 or eotech...unless ur friends w/ the armorer. ofcourse the designated marksman get the m14 w/ scope. all saws have the 4x scope...forgot the name of it. seen it on the canaidian rifles aswell. all 240b have scopes as well, same as saw.
but could vary from unit to unit....the above goes for the unit i was in 1-501PIR Bco

edit: found what optic was on our saw's and 240's the OS3.4x

NCO's may pretty much customize their weapon. They can decide whether or not if they are going to use Optics.

Call Canadian rifles have ELCAN sights, all LMG's have C79s.

No, many of our troops use E.O.Tech as well, i also seen some whit acog... its pretty much up to the soldier even if there is a rules against that.

made a little correction for you. everyone uses optics in the army...unless your a POTG/Fobit


lol...this made me laugh though... the only customization i know of is the placement of the front vertical grip unless u buy your own "cool guy" stuff
i don't know about your unit...or even if your in a unit, but we didn't have a bunch of 1500 dollar optics just lying around. but hey, that was a couple of years ago....maybe we have stock piles of em now. and if so......AWESOME!!

Well.. for reg force guys its don't ask don't tell. I don't think I've seen one soldier with all or even most of the standard kit, since most of it blows.
