I fail to see how this weapon is significantly different from the HK416 other than its full auto selection swaps to an open bolt. But the same effect is achieved anyway on the 416?

Future weapons is just some producers who get hot and bothered thinking about all the M16 series rifle modifications that are out there. I've never seen anything really useful or impressive on it, and the dude who hosts it has a ridiculous love for the M4.

If it was really futureweapons they would be testing laser beams that can cut off your left nut from space.

I have seen that weapon before during a live demonstration, and it actually isn't too bad. But to use it to replace the M249 is only feasible under few circumstances.

First, they keep going on about how you can share mags from your buddies. That is fully capable with the M249 now, and I have personally had to use that feature a couple of times myself. What it is doing though is reducing the SAW's magazine from 200 rounds down to 30 rounds, which is NOT a good idea for the suppressive fires that the SAW was intended to provide. Strike One.

Second, the weapon is not suited for vehicle mounting or attachment to fixed positions such as tripods. This means the M249 and M240 will still need to remain in service. All this is doing is creating yet another weapon that soldiers must train to use, armorers must train to repair or upgrade, and more parts that must be kept on hand. Strike Two.

Third, the M249 has a variant that is suited for better handling in a CQB/MOUT environment. It's the Para model, which uses a collapsible buttstock and a shorter barrel, as well as being outfitted with a vertical foregrip and rails for accessory attachments. The Para model is also usually equipped with a 100-round ammo bag instead of the 200-round box, making it lighter and easier to handle in confined spaces. In a MOUT environment 100 rounds is usually enough, but 200 rounds is "too many" and 30 rounds is surely not enough. Strike Three.

Personally I do like the weapon, but it is more suited to an LE/SRT role and not military operations. And as stated by many posters above, this weapon is not in current operational deployment by any military force. This means that it currently has no place in PR. This is a fine topic for the Military Tech forums, but not in the suggestions.

Seriously, man.

I wonder what the weight is though?

And if it would be a good re...still uses the same round .
