Plus almost every LMG in the world today uses an open bolt including the M249 which we're talking about here. In fact, that is one of the reasons they want the new gun to start from the close bolt position, to keep the crud out that currently gets in. |

There is a littlemore to the LWRC IAR (now marketed as the M6A4 by LWRC to LE/MIL only) than being just a "open bolt M4"...
 LWRC is out of the competition, contracts were awarded to FN, H&K, and Colt. http://www.defenselink.mil/contracts...ontractid=3928 Colt IAR...  FN IAR...  Couldnt find pics of HK's offering, but have read it was basically another variant of the HK416. |

^^ haha great!
I'd say: M4 bottom + HK416 top parts + drum mag = the solution they already have M4 bottoms, they already use HK416's with m4 bottoms to save cost, and the drum magazine gives substantial rounds to supress. and they can share mags with their buddies too! AND its extremly reliable! |

Just give everyone an IAR and it ought to have the same longevity as a single M249.
