News : Operations in Afghanistan : News and Events : Royal Navy
http://www.defensenews.com/story.php...52&c=EUR&s=TOP ![]() This order has now been officially confirmed (they are also called Broncos). They cost £1.5 million each ($3 million) These will replace the Vikings that are currently in Afghanistan. Apparently the Vikings are currently being uparmoured, but this takes them outside their operating spec - hence the need for replacements. The Warthog looks very similar to the Viking, but the main difference is that they are armoured, have a larger payload, and the rear articulated unit is interchangeable. |

Thats the Viking that British forces (and many others) currently use. The Warthog/Bronco will be replacing them in Afghanistan (though Ive read that the Viking will stay in British service - just not in Afghanistan)
The Viking is made by a Swedish company I think which is owned by the UKs BAE - apparently there have been court cases in the past about the similarity's but they have all been settled now. |

I think the British Army may have bought a load of grenade launchers, or something like that, from the same company recently. | |

That's the BV206 which is used mainly in Norway by the Army and Marines. I've had a lot of use out of these and they are an awesome bit of kit that will go almost any where.
This is the Viking: ![]() The only problem with up armouring Viking is that it takes it over the design weight and both Hagglunds and Alvins who now own Hagglunds refuse to offer any further support of the vehicles are changed in any way. But at least spares will be cheaper than ordering from Sweden. For example an adjustable spanner from Hagglunds was over the £13 mark but the same tool could be sourecd in the UK for under £2. Makes perfect sense to me. |

Apparently, lead is not good for you if ingested, at any velocity. And whilst I'm here, you're not a PC and Windows 7 wasn't your idea, live with it!!! |
