nah those are definately russians, you can tell by the type of helmet they are wearing (and the fact that many dont bother wearing them) and their uniforms.

georgian troops are all outfitted with NATO style helmets and equipment with many of their vehicles upgraded to NATO standards with GPS navigation, thermal sights and more although that didnt seem to help them in this case.

My combined data about Georgian troops in South Ossetia. Warning, possible errors are possible because of Soviet/Russian weaponry names translation issues.

3rd Georgian infantry brigade in combat zone:

Brigade commanders & Staff - 60 men
Staff company - 108 men, 2 BMP-2
31st Light Infantry batallion - 591 men
32nd Light infantry batallion - 591 men
33rd Light infantry batallion - 591 men
Mixed Mechanized batallion - 380 men, 30 T-72, 15 BMP-2
Artillery division - 371 men, 18 D-30, 8 120mm mortars, 4 ZSU-23-4 "Shilka"
Technical support batallion - 288 men
Reconaissance company - 101men, 8 BTR-80
Combat Engineers company - 96 men
Communication company - 88 men, 2 BTR-80

In 2002-2206 brigade took part in GSSOP II educational program to replace 1st brigade in Iraq (currently 1st brigade is on the way to home). 32nd batallion was in Kosovo.

Additional troops (almost 350 soldiers from elite forces) widely used non-Soviet small arms such as M4 carbines & Galil assault rifles. Sniper teams used combat-approved SVD rifles and new Swiss OM 50 "Nemesis" sniper rifles (information about OM 50 usage acknowledged from Ossetian militiamen).

At evening of August, 6, units of Georgian Joint Artillery brigade approached borders of South Ossetia. Georgian Joint Artillery brigade includes:

3 152mm 2A36 "Giazint-B" artillery
11 152mm 2A65 "Msta-B" howitzer
6 203mm 2C7 "Pion" modile artillery
1 152mm 2C19 "Msta-C" mobile artillery
26 152mm SPH-77 "Dana" mobile artillery
13 152mm 2C3 "Akazia" mobile artillery
4 262mm M-87 "Orcan" rocket artillery
4 160mm LAR-160 rocket artillery
16 122mm BM-21 "Grad"
6 122mm RM-70 rocket artillery
12 128mm M63 "Plamen" rocket artillery

15 AAA guns ZU-23-2

Personnel - almost 1200 men

Addendum: Military sources in Russain Armed Forces insist Georgian army armed with almost 10 S-200 (SA-5 Gammon) SAM systems sold by Ukraine. One of those S-200 missiles shot down TU-22M3R reconaissance jet (recon version of TU-22 bomber) in South Ossetian sky.

According to sources in Georgia and South Ossetia, Georgian command focused more than one hundred T-72s, modernized T-72-SIM-1s and T-55s and yet undescribed number of light armored vehicles (BMP-1, BMP-2, BRM-1, BTR-70/80) in conflict zone.

In Tckhinval assault Georgian aviation used Mi-8 Hip, Mi-24 Hind (3 or 4), UH-1 helicopters and SU-25 assault jets (4 or 6).

If you want to know more, I can add my info about Russian and South Ossetian forces bit later.

At first time I didn't watch it with attention.
Soldiers we see are South Ossetian militiamen, cause of their armbands and non-traditional camo (00:32), and Russians.

Guys in helmets - Russians, without helmets and with armbands - Ossetians.

Hmm so not much air power then against dedicated fighter jets. Any reports of dogfighting or jets being shot down on either side?

thats debatable, there is lots of footage that shows many russian troops dont bother wearing helmets at all, it seems its only enforced on a squad by squad basis.
