The Eurofighter is a what, 15 year old design? Even when the prototypes were making their first test flights it was outdated. The only reasons we're still going with it is cos we were locked into a contract back in the 80's/early 90's, and the government enjoys sucking up to the rest of the bloody EU.

its an awesome and yes its expensive but its nessacary so we have an awesome air defence if nessacary plus then everyone is going to be like "don't mess with the UK they have typhoons" also i want to fly it soon

In the event we go to war against a country with a reasonable airforce, no doubt we'll be in it with the yanks, who will have cruise missile'd the fuck outta every runway in the country long before any enemy aircraft can launch...

The F35 series is a much more promising prospect, what with actually having a proper ground attack capability rather than having it bolted on at the last minute ala F22 & EF2000.

And it really shows with the AG radars performance. The resolution that the F-35 could bring to bear is unprecedented. History has shown its always better to have separate planes committed to each role than to try and make a plane do everything. (F-111 RIP)

I digress, the F-22 and F-35 really do compliment each other the way the F-16, F-15 or MiG-29, Su-27 do. And so far the F-15 is like 100-0 and F-16 is 74-0 iirc, so the theory has some substance. Its a safe bet that the next hot wars opening shots will be made by an S-400. Stuff like RCS reduction, AG radar resolution, and the types of ARMs used will be paramount. I feel that the EFT doesn't really bring enough enough of the first two to the table for the opening shots of an air campaign. After air defenses were suppressed then it would have freedom of movement, but thats true for any 3rd or 4th gen aircraft today. I feel that the money spent on the Eurofighter would have been better spent on developing a true 5th gen fighter that offered a combination of unique capabilities, not just slight improvements on old capabilities.
