Re: Why M4 for the US army?

Bear in mind that the US Army still uses the M16A2/A4 in most of its support elements.

i was kinda dissapointed when i saw the new model with the m68 because all the pictures i've seen from iraq have mainly Eotechs if the acog isnt used. but i guess a reddot will work.

Obviously you haven't seen many picture from Iraq because something around 60-70% of the troops use the M68. I don't believe they issue troops the Eotech so the troops who want them have to spend their own money on it.

In USSOCOM the EOTech will be replacing the Aimpoint M68/ECOS-N and Trijicon Reflex sights in the SOPMOD Block II package. The model is the EOTech 553 type-classified as the SU-231 Enhanced Combat Optical Sight-CQB (ECOS-CQB). This will start sometime next year.

No other EOTech sights have been type-classified by the US military as of yet, so the ones currently in the field in conventional units would seem to be individual or unit level purchases. They are highly sought after.

It's the one issued to regular front-line troops, so it's the one that matters to us.
