Why M4 for the US army?

Bullpup will have inherently more recoil as its weight is less balanced.

Take the discussion about mounting the ACOG on the L85 - how many "eugh, that cantalever bracket is ugly" comments were there? Now, how many people are going to look at a line of British troops on drill or parade and go "My! Look at the horrible way they've mounted that sight! They clearly don't know what they're doing!".

No one. NO-ONE will think that the troops are unprofessional because their sights are mounted in a slightly different way. At least, no-one sane.

a M4 does tend to bounch a little more because it is lighter. I also think it is a little more sensitive in the accuracy department with iron sights because the sight radius is closer together but overall accuracy is the same.

Have you held either of them, or atleast a replica?

I hate bullpup reloading compared to standard, but I do see how effective bullpups are, since they have a REALLY long barrel for such a compact rifle.

TBH bullpups won't truly come into their own until caseless ammo becomes practical.

SA80: Held, fired, loaded, reloaded, cocked, released, ripped apart, cleaned, put back together.

I love how the SA80 handles; reloading is easy, and with it being closer to your body, less exposed and better in close quarters.

M4 I've only handled a modified version of (single shot, straight-pull), and I felt the balance much more on my left hand, and it just felt too front-heavy for my liking. With the SA80 I (dunno about others) 'pull' it into my shoulder, as a 3rd point of contact meaning the weight is nicely balanced between my right arm and shoulder, which I find most comfortable.

The ONLY disadvantage I can see to bullpups is that they aren't suited for bayonets, since they're too short to give any decent reach, though they have been used by troops in 'stan and Iraq, especially in those bloody fields.

i dont think u can blind fire w/ bullpups because the way your hands are postioned...or you cant put a camera on it and peek around a corner w/ it because you NEED that contact w/ your shoulder to keep it balenced

and i heard l85 is only for right handed users...what does the british military do for its left handed shooters??

but yea i heard the m4 and m16 are both similarly accurate and both have the same stopping power

I've use the L85 in airsoft ONLY its nice and compacted but I cant stand the bullpub.

I didnt know if the m4 shoots the same as a m16, anyone have any info on that?
