Re: Why M4 for the US army?
If the weapon stop after you ran out ammo , it counts as a jam so its pretty hard to be unjamable

Re: Why M4 for the US army?
I was infantry (wounded) with the 172nd Stryker brigade. The M4 is only lighter than the m16 before you add all the attachments the pogs dont get to have. My m4 weighed almost 10 lbs. They zero pretty much the same as the m16 family but become harder to group at the max qualifying range of 300m . The H&k 416 is I believe an operating rod version (AK anyone) of the m4. I had a good talk in early '06 in Iraq with a 1st Sgt from the Army's Assymetrical Warefare group who was carrying one on my Stryker. The army was making great progess with the XM-8 but had to drop it due to *ahem* budget concerns with our sandy training area over seas.

Re: Why M4 for the US army?
bullpups are just more efficient than traditional designs. instead of the butt of the weapon just being "dead weight," the space inside it gets occupied, so the barrel is longer, but the rifle can stay compact. anyway, my opinion of the best type of small arms weapon is a modular, AMBIDEXTROUS, bullpup. I stress "AMBIDEXTROUS" because I'm a left-handed shooter. (damn SA-80's trying to rip my face off)
as for the argument that bullpups are harder to handle than traditionally designed rifles, it just depends on what type of weapon youre used to. If you train with a bullpup, then traditionally designed rifles would be more difficult to handle. I've never fired a bullpup weapon, but I love them because I'm a very frugal and efficient person, so if a design is more efficient, ill take it over one that is older. I don't see why other Americans are so damn attatched to the traditional but less efficient rifle design. |

ah, ok, but i still like bullpups because they can be the total length of an m4, but have the barrel length of an M16.

Re: Why M4 for the US army?
yeah, that was my favorite gun in GRAW2 because of the stopping power without much recoil, but turn it into an ambidextrous bullpup and ill be even happier!

Re: Why M4 for the US army?
Bullpups are harder to put on target, so even though you've got a carbine sized rifle that you can move quickly, the wonky balance on the gun evens out the amount of time it would take to sight the target, unless you want to slap a large counterweight on the front, but then you lose the weight advantage of the smaller rifle.

Re: Why M4 for the US army?
well, i wouldnt know cause ive only fired traditional-style rifles, but bullpups just seem like more efficient designs for rifles.
are you used to bullpups or traditional rifles? because often how accurate you are with a weapon depends on how familiar you are with the given weapon. |
