Re: End of the M2 50cal?
With the M2E2 kit they're fielding things are already looking great for the M2 into the next decade. The FN M3M (USN/USMC GAU-21) offers a higher rate of fire than the M2 (1100 rpm cyclic), but is not significantly lighter (maybe 5 lbs). GD's XM312 was rejected because of its poor rate of fire, so if they're going to match or exceed the performance and durability of those weapons at half the weight, they have their work cut out for them.

1/2 weight would be 63 pounds including tripod... Perhaps see more of them in Weapons Companies?

Re: End of the M2 50cal?
The military follows the money. If this M2 replacement does its job and is cost-effective, it will replace the M2 with time; if it fails to do its job, like the XM312, or it is not cost-effective, the military will let it die.

Re: End of the M2 50cal?
The most important factor of the M2 in my opinion is the reliability. That has to be the baseline for any replacement to work from. The weapon is built so rugged the best way to destroy it, according to the manual, is with it's own barrel.

Re: End of the M2 50cal?
They will replace M2 whit M2HB ? or they will phase them out and replace them whit XM307 ? the XM307 have an advantage over M2... it can be converted from .50 to 40mm grenade in less then 30 secondes..
