it will fail, it sounds too good. You will see M2 for next 20 years at least.

One of the things which bugged me in the initial story was this line...

Re: End of the M2 50cal?
Hmmm...
I don't see the M2 going out of front line service in the US military for at least 10-15 years, and many more for it to be phased out even in western militaries. Ah well, I suppose you never can have quite enough dakka, but the M2 has come very close for a very long time... |

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

M2 is too good
And the guy babbling about XM307, its 50 cal to 20mm in 45 seconds Honestly M2 is good it does its job, and does it well. only issue is weight and lets face it withouth the weight the recoil on the mother would be so much worse |

Re: End of the M2 50cal?
And the lack of a quick change barrel. And the need to set the timing. And the need to headspace every barrel change. But other than that, it's a solid, reliable weapon.

Re: End of the M2 50cal?
The quick-change barrel is being rectified with the M2E2 kits being fielded, at least. The UK has had the QCB for years, so I'm wondering why it took the DoD so long.
