Re: does the US army have the new cammo yet?
well im British, so had no idea which was which and who uses it, but on that animation, the MARPAT(first one) works the best, when he is lying at a distance, its almost impossible to see him!!

Re: does the US army have the new cammo yet?
The Multicam is impressive on their website, a couple of the "where's waldo" pic's I completely missed the model until he took the shirst off, but I suspect they are playing with their photos a little, they all look over exposed, which washes colors out. Still, in the side by side of woodland there's no doubt in those enviroments Multicam is superior.

Multicam is more whitish and brighter than khaki/tan. That whitish/bright khaki is not really a naturally occurring color in forest and Multi cam has huge noticable patches of it. Example http://photobucket.com/albums/y90/nu...CADPAT-DPM.jpg The pattern on the left has the whitish kind of color that Multicam has while CAPDAT has a darker kind of khaki color that is less white and more tan/brownish. Another example http://specialforceskit.co.uk/store/...icas%20web.gif http://www.defensereview.com/1_31_20...MRP-QCBS_1.jpg See the whitish color? It is not bad for sandy/desert environments, but it is definately not the best. Example. The http://rbaz.tripod.com/pics/firearm-...flaged-gun.JPG Whitish/Light khaki is a naturally occurring color in the desert and some other environments and even desert MARPAT looks whitish when it is brand new, but white/khaki is not a naturally occurring color in the woods or jungle. Woodland MARPAT has very, very light patches of khaki in them, but unless you look close, it is very hard to see. Same with CADPAT, but theirs is a little more noticable, but still better then multicam IMO. Green, light brown, dark tan, and black (shadowy areas) are colors that naturally occur in woods/jungle areas. The whitish color in multi-cam isn't. I don't have anything against multicam, I am just skeptical of it for a variety of environments. Not to mention that those photos on their website are of course going to be in the pefect environment for the camo.

Re: does the US army have the new cammo yet?
There was a great line in the movie Shooter (unfortunately it was cut from the final version and can only be seen on the DVD's deleted sceens).
Markie Mark and the FBI agent are in the hunting department of a store, the FBI agent picks up a woodland cammie shirt and asks Mark "Should we get these?" Mark responds with "Are you going to those woods?" he then gives a short lesson on camo which he sums up with 'a sniper makes his camo to match the surroundings.' I thought is was a great point. |

Re: does the US army have the new cammo yet?
*shudder* Multicam SKS.
Just like some of the Multicam pictures are undoubtedly taken to emphasize MC's strengths, those product pictures don't do it justice. The contrast between the tan and the rest of the pattern is played-up on the plate carrier. Once again, I'm not saying that MC is the best thing ever, it's just quite effective at what it does. Additionally, if I were in a survival situation, and I was depending on MC -or any camouflage- to obscure me at the distances that most of 'camo comparison' photographs are taken, I would deserve to be shot. -REad |

I read that Canada is developing an Arctic CADPAT. Should be interesting. Let the Canadian snow joke begin.

I believe those are not cammies, just gortex tops and bottoms which are essentially like heavy guty rain coats I guess you could say (notice the hoods on them, those are gortex, not cammies). They are just wearing those over their MARPAT uniforms. There is no point in adopting a winter camoflauge because it would just be under whatever winter wear they have on. Adopting camo winter wear makes sense though.
