Saturday 26 Jul 08 - Sunday 27 Jul 08 10.00am - 6.00pm FREE Seaburn and Roker Tel: 0191 553 2000 The award winning Sunderland International Airshow promises to be another fun filled family day out at Seaburn and Roker in Sunderland. Voted England’s Best Tourism Experience, this year’s two-day event will feature an amazing display of aircrafts in the sky and entertainment on the ground. With high-speed jets, precision flying and displays that will take your breath away come down and enjoy the FREE weekend. Flying Times: Saturday 1.00pm – 5.00pm Sunday 1.00pm – 5.30pm Flying Display This year’s thrilling national and international display teams will include: Royal Air Force The Chinook Helicopter which amazed crowds last year will return again. This versatile helicopter has been involved in most of the recent UK military operations including Afghanistan and Iraq. The RAF's most advanced fighted aircraft, the Eurofighter Typhoon will be making its third appearance at the show. The Typhoon is an agile, single seat, multi-role aircraft, optimised for high-altitude supersonic air combat, but also capable of operating at much lower levels in air-to-air ground roles. This year is the RAF's 90th anniversary, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, comprising of the Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire will fly at the show. The historical aircraft from the flight have appeared in all 20 Sunderland International Airshows. The RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team will close the show on Saturday and open the show on Sunday with a dramatic beach landing. The RAF's premier flying display team, The Red Arrows will amaze the crowds with their spectacular manoeuvres. They will appear on the Sunday only and close the flying programme at approximately 5pm. Other RAF favourites including the Hawk T1, the Tucano and the Tutor will be back to thrill the crowds. Royal Navy The Black Cats Helicopter Display Team will be making a return. Overseas Military The Royal Netherlands Air Force will be displaying two different aircrafts, the F-16 and the Augusta Bell. Further international flavour will be added by the Belgian Defence Force Air Component with the F-16. Civilian The Blades Aerobatic Team, the dynamic four-plane aerobatic formation team will be making a welcome return. Role Demo Seaburn beach and skies are to be the stage for a rescue mission where the UK's armed forces work together in a ficticious but realistic military exercise. The scenario is based on a rescue mission where UN personnel are captured by a hostile force and held hostage in a coastal enemy camp. Live radio calls and special effects will bring the demonstration alive and give a real feeling of how the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force operate globally. The impressive 45 minute display will include Awacs, Tornado GR4 and F3’s plus Hawks, Chinook and Sea King Helicopters alongside HMS Southampton and RFA Lyme Bay. Arena Programme On the ground, the arena programme includes, the Royal Marines Commando Display Team, the Royal Navy Field Gun Team and The Band of HM Royal Marine’s from Scotland who will perform throughout the day in the arena and also close the event on Saturday with a ceremonial sunset (Saturday only). The RAF Townshow will be brimming with exhibitions including Harrier and Hawk Aircrafts, School of Fighter Control, Eurofighter Typhoon cockpit and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight trailer. Visitors to Bede's Cross will have the chance to see a Royal Navy Sea King and Wasp helicopter up close and an Army climbing wall, the Military Police and a mine clearance demonstration. On The Ground Flight simulators, exhibitions from Pot Noodle, EA Games and Nintendo and a variety of entertainment will be available across Seaburn and Roker with something to excite and entertain the whole family. As some of you may or may not know - as the case may be - I have around 350GB+ of military newsreels and related combat footage from World Wars I and II, as well as some other military conflicts. I currently have around 3000 various videos, mostly German, British, Vichy French, Italian, Hungarian and Soviet as well as a few other countries. If there is anything any ACG member is looking for in particular - a certain battle, campaign, military equipment, units, etc - post your request here if interested and I will see what I can find.
