The downfall of the Mastiff is that it can only be accessed through the back doors.

The additional side armour has a downside if you hit a mine, the fuel tanks are designed to blow off and away from the vehicle but the armour stops them and they just burn under the vehicle. Also a lot of axles are breaking with the extra weight being carried.

The vehicle has saved a lot of lives and is doing its job very well even with a few teething problems.

I think it's because of the upcoming EU ban on lead-based ammunition. Apparently, lead is not good for you if ingested, at any velocity.

And whilst I'm here, you're not a PC and Windows 7 wasn't your idea, live with it!!!

Not all, lots are now fitted with RWS (like on the Panther) Here it is on CR2, and is being used on CR2 in Iraq.

And as you can see, Elvis is now kicking around in blue overalls

they've also bought a shed load of Kongsberg RWS, presumably for the Ridgeback.

That's because the Stryker is based on the Pirhana.

The Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced in December 2007 the intention to buy an additional 170 Mastiffs, which are now Mastiff 2. The procurement of over 150 Ridgback vehicles (announced in December 2007) represents a further spend of over £150million on protection for British forces.

Its not just purchasing the vehicle, its also installing comms eqpt., weapon systems, extra armour, fittings and coachwork inside the vehicle, and any other odifications to make it UK spec. Plus of course the manufacturer will add a fair wedge on top for the spares/support package.
