Amazing New Robot

LiveLeak.com - Boston Dynamics Big Dog Prototype

Found this today and it was epic. How they got the robot to do all that is beyond me. I hope this gets put into some military use one way or another.

Seen it before but that thing is crazy, when it slipped on the ice, I was impressed. They should make a horse like that which you could ride and control, now that would be sick.

obviously the production varient would be far quieter but my guess for this robot would be for heavy lifting in rough ground, a replacement for the mule.

(OR its a prototype for a giant battlewalker)

the legs reminded me of metal gear ray (metal gear solid 2 and the robots in the 4th)

a very impressive robot indeed, i don't know if the current form can be used for combat (maybe as a munition weapon platform) but the legs and systems can be used for new improved robots.

A mule i would say is more or less irreplacable in the right part of the world lets see.

Mules:
Blend in with the locals and don't attract too much attention
It can find and refuel itself without prompting.
It knows often which way to go without telling it, and will pick a safe route for you to follow.
If it breaks you can buy another one from the nearest village.

Sure a robot does a very different job, but mules are just ideal for the job.

intresting, I would call it more of a big sheep than a big dog

very impressed how it could keep its balanced after a guy pushed it, wasn't soo impressed with it slipping on the ice, although really good how it could keep its balance, if it had rubber pads on its feet it wouldn't have slipped in the first place.

Wonder how long until they get one that can run as fast as a dog?

Wow that’s some impressive engineering! Robots mimicking RL movement for balance is amazing, hard to say where it can lead. Sometimes it looked fake, and often looked kind of freaky, like something out of a nightmare! Especially with that unnerving hum :S

Don’t forget you can also eat the mule
