US purchases RA tile sets

So the US is apparently ordering quite a large number of RA sets to augment the side armor of M1s. Any speculation as to why this may be? Seems like RA is a bit overkill against RPGs, and it's a lot of sets to not be actually used.

I read the title and thought that the US had bought the map tile sets for Command & Conquer: Red Alert.

Come on, you know that would be so much more awesome. The US army training on something using one of the best RTS ever made as a base!

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Many thanks to the Forum's no.1 hottie for the sig pretties.

Typically slat armor is being used for RPG protection. RA is overkill, and has a relatively small protective area. Weird.

Ongoing PR Projects:
Canadian Forces RG-31 Nyala Armored Patrol Vehicle - Status: Importing
Topographical minimaps - Status: Restarted![7/18]

What's really weird, and this may just be my inner geekery coming out, but the price.

I mean, $69 million... nice round number.

$69,060,000, I could understand.
$69,061,500... okay, what does that extra $1,500 get you?
$69,061,510... seriously, that's taking the piss.

It's like they walked into a store and haggled.

US Government: "We'd like to buy 485 of these sets from you please"
Ensign-Bickford: "Certainly sir."
US Gov: "How much are they?"
E-B: "Well, for that many, we can do them for $69,062,000."
US Gov:*Sucks on teeth kinda noise* "Oooh, that's a bit more than I was planning to spend, actually... have you got anything a bit cheaper?"
E-B: "I'm sorry sir, that's all we've got in stock. You're lucky actually, we don't usually have this many sat around, and we had a big order from the Israelis last week"
US Gov: "Well, do you know of any other stores in the area that do them?"
E-B:*Kinda caught off-guard* "Oh, well I know Rayethon don't... BAE might, but they're British, sir. I tell you what, I can offer you the lot for $61,061,750".
US Gov: "How about $61,061,000?"
E-B: "$61,061,500, and that's my final offer, but for an extra ten bucks I'll throw in a year's supply of paint for them."
US Gov: "Oh go on then. Bag 'em up and bring them out to my Commander's truck, I'm parked out the back, that's if some bugger from the Blue Mob hasn't nicked it and rolled in into a ditch somewhere. What colours do you do the paint in?"
E-B: "Beige, mostly. Yeah, we've got beige, light brown... beige andddd oh yes, 'sand'."
US Gov: "Sand sounds good, will match our turrets. Cheers!"
