UK Gets 2 New Aircraft Carriers

MOD announced that it has taken out a contract for 2 new Aircraft Carriers to be built

Whole article here: Ministry of Defence | Defence News | 80,000 tonnes of steel ordered for new aircraft carriers

The Future Carrier Project

The UK is procuring two new Aircraft Carriers for the Royal Navy - HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince Of Wales. The carriers will be the biggest and most powerful surface warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy and will deliver an increased strategic effect and influence around the world

Each can hold 40 Aircraft, looks like their showing off the F35 in those photos too

These look to have massive potential if they can hold 40 F35s on each.

Interesting that they'd stick with the ski jump configuration over the CV-X use of magnetic catapults.

Very cool, weren't these announced last year? I suppose they only just awarded the contracts.

RN FTW!

Addition: HMS is in low readiness in prep for decommission, are any other aircraft carriers being decommissioned? If not it means we will have an extra carrier, yay!

Its also nice to see the good old RN ski jump design on them too

Looks as though it could handle more than 40 per carrier. Might just be how the picutre is tho.

I wonder if they've worked out how to not melt the decks when the F-35s attempt to VTOL yet...

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

the version the RN will be using is the short takeoff and vertical landing, like how they use the Harriers at the moment.

Also I found a old pic of the carrier design, its changed quite abit hehe
