Would a WW2 tank be able to damage a modern tank?
Lets say a Panther or T-34 or Sherman Firefly, would they be able to cause considerable damage to modern tanks like the Abrams, C2, Leopard?
I've been playing a lot of Company of Heroes, thought popped into my mind heh. |

Given armour advances, projectile advances, increased engagement distances, and better technology (for example stabilisers allowing effective engagement while moving) I seriously doubt it.
Unless it rammed one and managed to get on top... |

What about like a hit from behind?
Someone should make a movie where we invent a time machine and our modern tanks go to the past and fight hitler's tanks. that would be awesome. |

I bet that a modern MBT could probably kill a WWII one by running it over. Or at worst with a 50 cal.

It could probably (given the opportunity) score a mobility kill (destroy tracks, disable the engine) or a firepower kill (destroy the main gun, sensors etc), but it's very unlikely that they would be able to penetrate the main armor enough to get a catastrophic kill. But anythings possible.

Damn, a question they won't be able to test on Mythbusters. Unless they have a Mythbusters / FutureWeapons crossover.

Tanks are armoured in the rear. It is a myth that modern tanks are somehow useless and spontaneously combust as soon as you get behind them.
If (and remember, none of us design armour) tanks of the 40s could damage a flat plate of Chobham, we would not need 120mm weapons on vehicles the size of a garage. Tank designers try to keep tanks as small as possable, it is hardly likely that a 105mm main gun of the 50s would need to be upgraded if a 105mm could crack a modern tank. The Leopard 2 uses perforated composite armour that has been tested and reveiled to withstand cirtain glancing shots from a 105mm, the reason you see it in Steel Beasts is because the correct information was given so that Denmark could use Steel Beasts Professional as a simulator. Now imagine the superior Dorchester armour on the Challenger 2 or the older, less superior Chobham on the Abrams and Challenger 1. |
