Back on topic, Britain made a cheap tank specifically for export (can't remember the name), which I think was sold to some South American countries.

Challenger 2E

Challenger 2E is an export version of the tank. It has a new integrated weapon control and battlefield management system, which includes a gyrostabilised panoramic SAGEM MVS 580 day/thermal sight for the commander and SAGEM SAVAN 15 gyrostabilised day/thermal sight for the gunner, both with eyesafe laser rangefinder. This allows hunter/killer operations with a common engagement sequence. An optional servo-controlled overhead weapons platform can be slaved to the commander's sight to allow operation independent from the turret.

The power pack has been replaced with a new 1500 hp (1100 kW) EuroPowerPack with transversely mounted MTU MT 883 diesel engine coupled to Renk HSWL 295TM automatic transmission. The smaller but more powerful engine allows more space for fuel storage, increasing the vehicle’s range to 550 km.

BAE announced in 2005 that development and export marketing of 2E would stop. This has been linked by the media to the failure of the 2E to be selected for the Hellenic Army in 2002, a competition won by the Leopard 2.[13]

You certainly do old chap. You're selling the F-22 to Australia. And the F-35. And while they wait for those two they're buying some F/A-18's.

Your country exports and imports a lot of military equipment, as do all militaries of the modern world.

Edit: Scratch that on the F-22.

Challenger 2 E is the top line export version, the cheapy ones for export are things like Vickers Mk3.

We have also sold tons of Centurion and Cheiftan over the years too.

The Centurion, in a modified form (the Olifant) is still the primary MBT of the SADF, and despite being at its core a WWII design, was still kicking all kinds of Cuban (equipped with T-55s, T-62s and the odd IS-3/T-10M) arse during the border war in the '80s.

In one enguagement of particular note they destroyed 62 T-55s (of 72 deployed, and the other 10 were later found abandoned and captured) for 2 Olifants damaged.

the F-35 is a joint project involving several countries, so no the us is not selling it to australia, australia is simply getting it's share of its contribution.

The US is one of the most prolific suppliers of arms in the world. This should not be a mystery. Just in the major wars we have fought in the last 65 years (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) we gave other countries billions of (current US) dollars in hardware. The US has always held a policy of supplying great amounts of military aid directly to friendly governments. Israel is a very big one on this front currently.
