BoT: Almost all western countries with their own tank designs sell them to foreign countries. When tanks sell well over several mil a piece the money adds up after a few sales.

Arms sales are not always just for the money though. Most US arms sales are made with a primary purpose of bolstering friendly nation's military capabilities, and are often made at a loss (AKA US taxpayers pay for Israeli planes/apcs/whatever).

Back on topic, Britain made a cheap tank specifically for export (can't remember the name), which I think was sold to some South American countries.
