if cold war era Kontakt 5 could withstand so many AT weapons in NATO's arsenal, including the GAU-8, what are the capabilities of modern day russian tanks like the T90?
i remember someone on this forum complaining that the T90 was unrealistic in PR because "in rl the M1 would kik its ass in 1 shot". looks like mirror balancing isnt so unrealistic after all. seems like this article also means this forum is gonna have to change its perceptions on russian weps and technology. they may not spend as much but that doesnt mean they cant turn up some amazing stuff. |

Not really, as PR has mirror balanced MBTs, beside the suspicious CR2...

BTW...Explosive Reactive Armor are used by both NATO and Soviet... but ERA is weak from behind, and cannot resist infinitely... So if a pilot/guner shoot at ERA whit 30mm it will blown then after he just need to trow a missile where he blown ERA and its over. Javelin, TOW, Hellfire, Maverick, Hydra Rocket, and all other device of this kind will pass out tank crew...
ERA or not... you'll not survive this. | ||||

Any top attack designed weapon bypasses ERA because no one puts ERA on top of their tanks to my knowledge (again, to my knowledge). Same reason why an a-10 would still rip any tank, modern or otherwise, apart. All it would take is a few rounds to trigger the ERA and the a10 puts out more than a few rounds per target. This is, however, not my field of expertise so I could be mistaken. It doesn't state the actual data, how many rounds per weapon system, where they aimed, etc.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

There are some areas on the front particularly on the T-72A/B upgraded with Kontakt-5 that lack ERA coverage.
Sorry that the picture was sideways but it was the best I could find of a T-72B with Kontakt-5. |
