Reputable Sources
Dear "Military Technology" Reader,
The moderating team have had a little discussion, and have struck upon the following brilliant idea, first suggested by Guns Guru(tm) Bob Marley. Due to several discussions in recent months where forum members have made claims about "this calibre" or "that weapon", we will now be adding a need for reputable sources to any claims made in the MilTech section of the forum. Posts made that give any kind of statistic or factual evidence (as opposed to opinion or personal experience) i.e.: "No, the maximum range for a SA-7 is THIS far..." should be backed up by evidence. Wikipedia in itself does not consitute reputable. Where this is need is completely overlooked, posts may be deleted without warning. Repeat offenders may be slapped with wet fish, or possibly warned depending just how bad a mood the moderators are in that day In short, no more e-penis waving contests about your favourite piece of hardware without some proof that your e-penis really is that large, please. |

Seriously though, this has been needing to be said for a while :P hoorah Masaq. If I'm ever going to post any info on something I make sure that I'll read up on it as much as poss, gather as much data from as many different sources and then I'll post my rendition of various findings, posting the links up also It's good Should stop all this crap of "weapon deviation suxorz, and I know 'cos I've REALLLLY shot someone at 500m with my piss! it's all in the arc... few hours ago. i interviewed a guy at my work who fought in chechenia for the russians. i was eager to ask him questions for several months but didnt, cause i doesnt wanted to be without respect like "hey im a weekend warrior tell me how sweet war is".
but today i told him bout PR and of course especially bout the militia fraction. he seconded the structure-level it has, despite there have been several stages of that war, over some the chechens obviously had a status of more an professional army than partisans. depending on the year. he said in the beginning the chechens had exactly the same equipment as the russians, but airforce was destroyed in the first days, heavy assets (tanks) were destroyed in the following months. he told bout russians lost very lot of T-80s by chechen TUR-missiles, comparing thing to a TOW; also he said russians made the mistake to send in their T-80s in urban enviorements where they have been killed by RPGs which have been fired out of the upper floors of houses right on their toparmor. i asked him how many RPGs a T-80 can take on his top, he said only one is needed to destroy the tank. he was speaking bout a antitank-variant of the RPG-7. the chechens most used rifle he said was an ak47 with ugl, same as on russian side. he said both sides had so much ammo for the ugl that the troops were very used with it, no problem to shoot trough a window from 100m away. think im gonna ask him more stuff maybe he tells me. |
