the challenger II in some models has explosive reactive Armour that can withstand several hits from HATs without being compromised.

Just a point to note, all of them can be fitted with ERA, normally stuck on for deployments. We may sson be joining the rest of the NATO gang with smoothbore too. Bit of standardisation.

'The thing that im most interested in though is the big gun, which is, as you can see, is rifled, for greater accuracy. Not like those smoothbore American ones that just hit something...over there'

Oman does, however, use the export variant of the Challenger II. Oh, and before we get into the rifled vs smoothbore debate, the Improved Lethality Programme for the Challenger II plans to replace the rifled L30A1 with the Rinemetall L55 smoothbore.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Yep, Tank v Tank SABOT wins AFAIK, and Smoothbore = SABOT.
As for the armor of Challenger vs. M1, lets not get into that. |

But the cool factor of the HESH round is not to be underestimated. Sure, penetrating the enemy's armour with a high velocity is pretty cool, but its no where near as cool as a round that litterally shakes the target to pieces.
