british army body armour question
I know that they have that new body armour to use in desert, kestrel i think its called? anyway, what type of armour do they use in woodland, is it a big arour system thing covering the whole torso, or, is it something different, beacuse when i look at Britsh soldiers in woodland, they are just wearing their webbing.
PS sorry bout the title being mis spelt. |

Osprey & Kestrel.
http://img165.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img007ew6.jpg I'd assume we have woodland covers for it too. |

I think they probably have woodland coloured ones, they may be rarer because we mostly fight in the middle eastern theater. Remember at the start of Telic, not everyone had a desert DPM smock or desert DPM armour.

Any idea how many 7.62mm rounds it can stop?
I know it is meant to only be an absolute last resort but sometimes one might find them self in a situation where they need quite a few last resorts! Weight???????? How does combat vests/ webbing fit over this because it already looks so bulky? From the pic i cant see a soldier easily carrying 12 SA80 mags! |

1 Grab a SAW
2 Find the highest hill/building around a flag 3 Move there, stay there, Spot, call out, attack marker... SAW! 4 For god sake go from high ground to high ground! NOT bottom of a valley to open field to gully! |

I have yet to see either of those be issued to anywhere out of theatre at the moment. The standard issue body armour is still used in woodland.

Regarding the shoulder protection, that's removable too. In my view it's really up to the bod on the ground to decide what parts he'll be wearing today. During TELIC1 I usually didn't wear any body armour as front line infantry out of choice. The threat has changed quite a bit, so if I were depolyed there again I'd be wearing the majority of the new kit.
