a quote from a RAF reg gunner when asked about the WMIK: "Yes we are exposed, But the Wmik can reach more hard to get to places. It can cover more boggy ground, than the hummer. So therefore you have to take the rough with the smooth!"

heh good point. Would certainly have its purposes and I suppose it would be a faster but less-armored/armed HMMWV? Or would it be more comparable to a DPV?

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Ecept the good ole' landy isnt fast lol, should be called a slow attack veichle
I think when they go out of service (if they ever do) the army should chav them up with big mufflers and what not, then erm, do something with them |

They're not assault vehicles so much as a way to rapidly position crew served weapons.

Land rovers do exactly what they say on the tin, they can get to some pretty remote places, that is why most british farmers have them. not only that but they can be airlifted by a merlin if needs be ( as can the WMIK)
The whole thing boils down to what you need the vehicle for, if you are likely to be attacked by IED, then pick something with good protection, if you are driving in a low risk, cross country area, land rover wins hands down. |
