For the sole reason that it has a 12.7mm (.50) cal coaxial, which I don't understand why all other tanks don't have.

Don't know about others, or the CR2, but older British tanks had 7.62mm co-ax guns because they were very balistically similar to the main gun so they could use them as a back up targeting system.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
