I love Germany, and the vehicle has a distinct WWII half-track look, but something about a completely modular construction screams "this will break, our supply train won't support the demand for parts and our troops will freeze in the Far North" very loudly at me. It just doesn't sound rugged, and "future proofing" is a funny concept. I'm worried this thing will have too many narrowly specialized versions with their own replacement part demands. Hopefully Rheinmetall will address that.

I think this wont go any further than a few prototypes. As you said, the need for replacement parts for the different versions will be huge, this would only pay off if theres a huge number of GEFAS in use. Although there is a need for armored light vehicles in the german army, I think the GEFAS will never see action. The BW will drive thier Wolfs, Dingos, Mungos and Fenneks for another 20 -30 years.

Its more of an Answer to the MRAP series and stuff like the Nalya and whatnot.
Seems like a lighter version of the British FRES system (what with the modular construction and such.) |

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

There's an older version of that, that was made back in the 1980's I think,it's on Battlefield 2 Modern Combat for the MEC team,it's their jeep...The only difference from the old one and the "new one" is that, the front end is bigger/longer.
here's the link,it should show it,go to MEC,and go to .05. http://www.bf.ea.com/bf2mc/vehicles/?lang=us |

I believe the community could design a way better design of a vehicle then any of the militaries.
