Those are very good videos Bob Marley and raise some good points.

Would you think that soldiers would want to carry 5.56 ammo because they can carry more of it despite its limited penetration or would they carry less 7.62 because of the extra weight and have better penetration?

Out of absolute curriosity, is the weight difference between 7.62x39 and the 5.56x45 THAT significant?

I believe we were talking about 7.62x51mm NATO ammo. Switching to 7.62x39mm Russian would be an awful idea.

Yes, that's the video.

I'm dubious of the whole "stopping power" and "hydrostatic shock". Especially after reading Dr. Fackler's reports.

I think carrying 7.62 ammo will weigh 20lbs more total? Some documentary I watched on youtube stated something to the fact that using 5.56 ammo means that a soldier can carry 2/3's (+66%) more ammo than a soldier carrying 7.62

Well the bigger problem than the weight is the recoil which prevents effective automatic fire from typical assault rifle designs.

The HK G3 is reported to be the most controllable 7.62x51mm assault rifle in full auto. And it weighs 9.7 pounds. Not sure if that's unloaded or loaded.

Thats the empty weight. So you could figure on at least another pound loaded.
