thermite verses abrams

i know termite is fucking hot as hell but would it be able to burn through a Abrams armor, because termite goes to a few thousand degrees which should go strait through the tanks armor.

Thermite....lol ... i should have got that.
I don't know because Abrams armor isn't all steel and thermite supposedly doesn't work well on vertical surfaces.
If you put a thermite grenade on the tracks or over the engine then maybe.

Yeh, I'd guess it would burn through horizontal plates with relitive ease.

Thermite is a mixture of Iron Oxide and fine powdered Aluminum, mixed in the right Stoichoimetric proportions the Oxide will act as an oxidizer.

So.. if you have a hot enough heat source such as say Magnesium to ignite the Al, the Oxide will release sufficient amounts of Oxygen which will continue feeding the Al to burn just like Blackpowder or any other pyrotechnical low order explosive.

The bi product residue of the Thermite combustion is hot molten iron which is very practical for destroying things, in the old days I believe it was used to weld train tracks.

There are variations that has sulfur and other types of reducers added to Thermite that'll lower the flashpoint of it.

As for the original question; You would need a LOT of Thermite to FU*K a Main Battle Tank.

In any case, if you want an accurate answer, the info you're looking for is most likely classified.
