Someone told me on another forum that the Panther (new vehicle the UK is considering to replace the Land Rover, as well as the Saxon and the FV432) costs four times as much as the latest military Hummer. Considering how tight-fisted the UK MoD usually is, I find it hard to believe that it would consider such an expensive vehicle.
![]() Perhaps they're only going to replace a few of the more worn-out Land Rovers? |

well usually when a new system is introduced they sort of phase out the older ones, so at first, if they do go with this, you'll probably see a small number of them.

Over the last few years we've spent a lot more on defence, sometimes not seeming to actually care how much they cost as long as they do the job they're made for, like the Challenger 2, Eurofighter and the Merlin and Apache progeammes, not to mention the L85A2 upgrade programme.

But wouldn't you rather have 4 Hummers than one of these? I know it looks good and everything, but still, 4 (four!) Hummers!

No. We'd rather have something with armour that protects the people inside them. The soft gooy things that ride in them are worth more than the vehicle itself. Also these do more miles to the gallon and are much better at dealing with mines.

amen to that
'we go to war with the army we have' apparently even a war that wasnt exactly a pressing matter. heard on NPR today that raytheon just got a big army deal for radar that will help warn troops of incoming cruise missiles (think thats what it was). so now the only question is, when will they be ready so we can 'liberate' a country who is currently in possesion of such weapons? |

They must be gearing up to invade France. I'll help if it happens.
