There are plenty of troops who are there who do not want to be there and think the shit is a lost cause. Where is that voice? Suppressed. There was a zogby poll from last year (2006) that showed 72% of troops surveyed said the U.S. should pull out within 12 months. I highly doubt that opinion among them has flipped to stay and win.

What is an acceptable level of casualties ?
Do you think those guys feel better about their sacrifice when a former presidential candidate calls them terrorists ?
out of contexts, but what do the words of john kerry have to do with increased bomings and casualties in iraq? nothing. Do you think they feel better about their sacrafices when their tours get extended by twelve months and they are not given the right equipment for the job?

Quote:
That's a load of shit. That may be your studied opinion, but your alone because the Democratic leadership has it plain they feel the war is lost and we must surrender.
The democratic leadership is NOT 'the democrats', just like BUSH is not 'the republicans'. Many of us are upset with the DEMS, but are closer to their camp than we are to a conservative one.

The argument has been presented as either we win by October with the rather small amount of troops we have in country or we must declare victory and retreat.
Your ideas?

We can win and we will win because smart people will keep trying and failing until they find a solution.
The only way we can win is to let the Iraqis settle this, or at least provide the means through adequate security. We cannot crush or end the insurgency--it's in people's minds.

Quote:
Part of what makes them do that is support from their loved ones and Al-Queda et.al. have made it trendy to hate America but support the troops.
Al Queda has made it trendy? i don't get it.

Quote:
Enlistment rates should be up in a time of war.
You are right, they should, especially when people feel that they are truly joining to protect their country, and not for some geo-political bullshit.
It's not a coincidence that the military is decreasing its stringency on enlistment criteria.

Quote:
People should feel confident that we can win a war against a country far smaller than our own but they don't and they don't join and they wear Che t-shirts and say " F the government " and " Bush Lied ".
people feel duped. I for one understand why.

I think you are wrong but I support your right to have your opinion and express it.
you think I am wrong because I insist that the current strategy is not working? prove otherwise.

Quote:
But, if you like to sit on the fence and make value judgments but not really do anything to stop it and you clearly recognize what will happen if we lose, and yet you still want to sit on the fence and quibble over details then it's high time you picked a side.
I have, I'm with the rest of the country that thinks we need to make some changes.

Quote:
Choose to support your country in a time of war and support victory for our causes.
I'm sorry, but 'america's causes' have nothing to do with this botched nation building fiasco in Iraq.

Quote:
Freedom and democracy may not be the reason we invaded but it is the reason we are there now.
Utter bullshit.
We are there now because there is no easy way for us to get out. We leave, Iraq descends into even deeper chaos, we stay, and we begin to experience attrition.

dammit i can't even make it through a day without getting political when dealing with you.

When "dealing" with me ? hmmm
Since when is the war not political ?
Since when does the money for the war not come from politicians ?
I hate to break it to you but tens of thousands of people don't think freedom and democray are utter bullshit. They re-enlisted.

I have, I'm with the rest of the country that thinks we need to make some changes
There is your bullshit because that is not a side.
2 choices....weak on immigration spendthrift republicans who want to win
weak on immigration spendthrift democrats who want to lose
I wish there was a third choice but there is not at this time.
So by pretending you are on a fictional third side, you are sitting on the fence.
You can support the war and want it fought differently you know.
You can show loyalty to your country by doing something different than dissent.
The more the Repubs wash out on the immigration thing more I think maybe Scarface and Ferocious Imbecile are right and this really is all smoke and mirrors, except of course for the soldiers and marines on the ground.

But I can't prove any of those wild theories and I can see the dead and wounded coming back.
I can not support anyone who thinks that running away from Iraq is the right thing to do.

I remembered why I was here.
Propaganda and high tech warfare.
I think that Al Queda has done a superb job at propaganda, from the jihad videos all over Youtube to OBL talking about American health care from a cave in Pakistan, the enemy, radical Islam, has used every preconception the west has about war as a weapon against it.
When you can't tell if it's Micheal Moore, or Nancy Pelosi or OBL then they have succeeded to a degree that no other enemy ever has.

Only in some situations, like night vision etc. But just look at the death toll from IED's in iraq. They're home made, and use ancient components, they're blowing holes in technology thats had billions pumped into it.

Low tech is under rated and under estimated, and thats costing lives in todays warfare.

If I may add my opinion. Just STFU with all this politics and "Is the war right or wrong?" BS.

I favour technology in terms of aerial weapons platforms and armour defense, but not as much as boots on the ground.

This thread will probably be deleted like others due to, "amerika iz dumb 4 goin to iraq, america is nazi's lolololo", but I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I think that right now, with our technology, it is still hard to prevent deaths from the whole (cheapshot caravan with IED and run in civ crowds like little pansys) tactic, but that problem is being solved by replacing our humvee's, which is a really good thing, they are old.

I think high tech has the biggest lead today than ever before. But i feel like its a matter of the governments will to use it. Back in WW2 we would bomb the whole city i.e Berlin but now a days noooooooooooooo careful not to kill to many people!! Its war damn it and i know it sucks and i would hope to god everyday that it doesnt happen to this country so dont say im naive and only saying these things b/c im not in the country getting bombed. But damn it we are the biggest nation in the world(money and military wise) lets fucking use some of that power!! We could bomb the shit out of that whole country and walk right in but sadly we cant. So military wise high tech can pwn all but politically neither side trumps the other.
