M16A2 (A4 as well) question - Page 4

We have been using the M16 for roughly 40 years now, I think we should get a real replacement like the XM8 (M8 if adopted) or a few other promising designs. Even if this rifle and carbine would likely be an interm weapon until we develop some sort of fancy caseless ammo design it would still be useful in the short term.

Seems the Iraqis are getting new M16A4s to replace their old AK47s. (yes they do wear out)

The Iraqi M16A4s don't have the Knight's Armament Company M5 RAS which is standard on American military models.

Ha! I wonder how long it will take before they figure out how to remove the burst limiter and we see a whole bunch of rock n roll?

I think burst is way better then auto, we all learned a lesson after Nam.

Seriously, you just pull the triger once and three bullets come out, it way more accurate.

The G36 in bullpup design would be a step forward - I've a feeling that one of the main reasons HK didn't go for a radical change in line with pretty much every other power's small arm's modernisation programme, is because of American institutional conservatism over future weapon designs (xm8, hk 416, etc.)

If you train your forces how to use it properly it can be alot more effective than burst.

Thats why you have SAWs tho, issued to each fireteam. Speaking with some of my bro's friends who have done a few tours, they said they used their burst maybe once. Beyond point blank, there's no reason as the second and 3rd bullets miss way off
