If it works and does the job it doesn't matter what it looks like, Browning's original M1911 design was thought to be ugly by some revolver fans of the time and we know how well it has been received over the years...

I think it's really clever, if you really want to cut casualties but keep the vehicle light. Protecting only what's important, the rest of the vehicle is expendable ...
