although (unlike delta force) the SAS is officially a regiment of the british army it is still very secretive about its weapons. it is believed that the sas use various armalites (m16a1,a2,commando) and a large amount of heckler and koch weaponry(mp5, g36) but other than that not to much is known about it, there are even rumors that some members still use the L1A1 rifle used in the falklands war. so what weapons will they use in PR?
i think they should be armed like this: rifleman: m16 medic: colt commando AT: LAW, (i know they probably use something better but i dont know what) mp5 sniper: m24 support: minimi i might be completely wrong on this, if so please correct me |

UK special operations forces started receiving the L119A1 Special Forces Weapon (Diemaco C8A1 5.56mm carbine; licensed derivative of the M4) in late 2000 or early 2001. That seems to be the primary rifle for them, in addition to the Diemaco C7A1 assault rifle (licensed derivative of M16A2).
But there have been reports of other weapons in use at various times, including the HK-53 and G3K. L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle (a semi-automatic only variant of the FN FAL battle rifle) I haven't heard of being in use for a long time, but we have broken the M14s out of their exile, so I wouldn't doubt that the SLR or another battle rifle might be in use now by UK SOF. The UK has also type classified the SIG-Sauer P226 as the L105A1, which is reportedly the standard sidearm for their special operations forces. We will be treating it as uch in PR. As for anti-tank weapons, the SAS never really liked the 94mm LAW-80 because of it's weight. For a while, it was reported that they still used the 66mm M72 LAW. Perhaps now they are using the L142 Interim LAW (84mm AT-4 Confined Space) as their standard individual light anti-tank weapon? The Carl Gustav 84mm M3 recoilless rifle has found a place in US special operations, so perhaps the SAS decided that abandoning the L14 "Charlie G" after the Falklands wasn't such a good idea after all. Us Yanks seem to keep picking up things that the UK has had for years (M240N/G is basically FN MAG) or gotten rid of (Carl Gustav), but are still good.:P Because of their types of missions, SAS probably does not often use (but they probably do train with so they can use them) heavy, crew-served ATGWs like the Milan except in the vehicle mounted role for their desert mobility troops. They may like the Javelin, though. The Minimi-Para was used by the SAS in Desert Storm and has recently (2002/2003) been adopted as the L110A1 LMG for use in regular British infantry sections, so it is probable that it or the Minimi Special Purpose Weapon are in use by UK SOF. Sniper weapons are a tricky subject. The L96A1 (Accuracy International PM [if older] or AW in 7.62mm NATO) and L115A1 (AWM in .338 Lapua Magnum) are good systems and were adopted UK forces wide (L115 goes to select units, though, such as 16 Air Assault and 3 Commando Brigades). These will be the UK sniper weapons in PR. Also used is the Barrett M82A1. I have heard of the AW50 being used in British service, but that was an EOD related artixle. Not sure if it has been or will be adopted for other units. I know our special operations forces, notably the SEALs, never seem to be quite satisfied with the systems that everyone else have and like to be different, so perhaps the SAS do indeed use or have access to some other things, like the AWS integrally suppressed rifle |

Yeah, SEALs always seem to want something new and better... As for sniper rifles for SEALs. The Accuracy International AS50 is currently being tested by Navy Special Forces, so we very well may be seeing the AS50 being adopted by SEALs relatively soon, as for SAS, im not to sure what the use for sniper rifles, but Im guessing a variety of H&K rifles... Other than that, I guessing they use a variety of Accuracy International Rifles as Eddie stated(L96A1, etc.)
