I've seen some arguments that it's varmint shooting with a slowed frame rate.

The video is fake and it is not RAUFOSS ammo.
They are rock chucks being shot with high vel varmint cartridges like the 243Winchester with a 58grn Vmax(around 3800-4200fps) or other varmint rounds like 22/250. How do I know, because the footage was ripped from this site which made the original video. http://www.rmvh.com/Scenes.htm Some of you may have seen me over at the planet battlefield forums. I post over there as "squirrelhunter", on most gun forums and a very few gaming forums I post using this screen name. I am also an owner of 50BMG rifles. Among other 50BMG owners I have spoken with and those who have actually used RAUFOSS, it is not that impressive. For actually defeating armor, the SLAP rounds do a better job. It's the true "multi-purpose" part of the RAUFOSS combined with it's accuracy that make it worth a damn, even ordinary M2 700grn BALL ammo does a better job of penetrating against armor at closer ranges from what I have been reading. As for the 50BMG being a cartridge that can perform a "gib", doubtful. I have read various stories of people who have used their 50BMG to shoot everything from tiny Texas Javelina to larger game, the destruction to the animals was not that terrible. The supposed "head shot" from a 50BMG is a relatively contested picture, some think the person was shot and then run over by some kind of tracked vehicle(reason for the head being almost 2 dimensional against the pavement). I've shot a lot of things with my 50BMG, no animals yet, and I'm actually I don't think the round lives up to the hype other than being able to shoot to some pretty long ranges. |

How is the M107 different from the M82A1?

Muzzle brake is updated but it is removed the same as on the M82 from what I have read. 100 of the things were released onto the civilian market as a limited run type affair. One of the better 50cal. forums out there is found here, a guy who used to work for Barrett comes through to post every so often(his name is "Tony"). There are some trolls there but a lot of discussion takes place regarding real world capabilities and potential of 50Cal. owners by those who own them for all kinds of reasons. http://www.biggerhammer.net/barrett/...ex.cgi?#159336 | |

i dont think this will replace the m24 for real snipers (as in they guys the are sneaky) the army got ride of it semi auto snipers for a reason not becuse of acuracy but becuse the bulet being ejected would give away there position to a trained sniper (that is bad) so that is y they now use bolt guns the sniper can slowly and quitly take out the caseing. i think it would be used for sharp shoters in a sqad or some thing but not anti snipeing missions.
crap i miss interpreted the post title, thought it was replacement sor but if that is waht u ment im not |

The M-21's and M-14's are still out there so semi-auto designs are still in the pipeline after supposidly being replaced by the M-24. Unfortunately there will probably never be an end to the age old debate of which is better... the semi auto or the bolt action.
