Re: Conflict in Georgia/Osetia

I think I need a third party account of all these events. The stuff ive seen has come from either Russia or Georgia. To one man it's 'Peacekeeping' and to another its 'Occupation'. Just like one man's 'Freedom Fighter' is another man's 'Terrorist'.

Ah snap..not this crap again.

There doesnt seem to be any correspondents on the ground?
Why would the Georgians and the Russians allow any?from my limited knowledge neither state actually allow 3d party independent reporting of what actually is happening, this isn't any Western state that allows such freedom of press, remember this is still after all the former Soviet block.

News reported that the Georgian army declared that it has captured Osetia..and the Russian tanks are at the outskirts of the city, sadly its nearly impossible to find any other reports that come out unless its from Georgian/Russian government/military.

Hmh, some sources state that there was an ongoing peacekeeping exercise in Georgia, even some British soldiers were participating. Interesting...

More fool the Georgians, if they had allowed reporters in (can som1 confirm that they are not please?) they might have had hard evidence to support some of their claims. Too much confusion to make a good assessment.

I think Western point of view will prevail as always. Russia haven't learned how to fight informational wars.

I don't think its about learning to fight informational wars, its more about sending tanks in to another country's internal affairs.
So what if they have Russian passports or they are Russian citizens?Israel's population is 1/5 Russian yet it doesn't stop Russia from supplying rockets to country's that are dying to blow the hell out of Israel.

First day of a war is always like that, also remember that most of the world press is at the Olympics basking at the greatness of China.

Russian units reportedly reaching the suburbs of the south ossetian capital

Quote:
Eyewitnesses have spoken of large-scale casualties and the separatists estimate 1,400 people have died in the fighting.

here's part of the Georgian President's interview with teh BBC, not sure in non-UK can view
BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Georgia 'would agree ceasefire'

I don't know why the BBC edited it, they should have posted it in its entirety or not at all

I keep hearing about 150 casualties on the russian side, but I cant find any reports on that
