David Gray warns on torture music
The US human rights record sinks to new lows. Surely playing "Babylon" repeatedly at full blast is on a par with waterboarding, if not worse. It would break me before the first chorus. Theres nothing worse than that head waggling tw*t.
David Gray warns on torture music Singer David Gray has warned that US interrogators playing loud music as a form of torture - including his own song Babylon - is no laughing matter. "Only the novelty aspect of this story gets it noticed... Guantanamo greatest hits," he said. "What we're talking about here is people in a darkened room, physically inhibited by handcuffs, bags over their heads and music blaring at them." His track Babylon is reportedly a favourite of US interrogators in Iraq. Repeatedly playing loud music to suspected terrorist detainees is also a standard interrogation technique in Guantanamo and other US bases. "That is torture," the singer-songwriter told Radio Four's World Tonight programme. "That is nothing but torture. "It doesn't matter what the music is - it could be Tchaikovsky's finest or it could be Barney the Dinosaur. "It really doesn't matter, it's going to drive you completely nuts." He said such torture formed part of a US "retaliation to a few terrorist acts". "No-one wants to even think about it or discuss the fact that we've gone above and beyond all legal process and we're torturing people," he added. I don't think some stupid people in this world know how "low" and "bad" people like terrorists, and the people kept in Guantanamo Bay are...I think they diserve everything they get...And yea, like "ZZEZ" said, sometimes you have to...America is just criticized for every little flaw.Media,go criticize someone else for once...

Re: David Gray warns on torture music
The same method Saddam's people used just so it happens. I think I read somewhere that they used metallica.. Well atleast he had a good taste in music :P
I was trying to think the absolute worst music for me to be tortured with and..... that would be disco music! Id be begging for death sooner than you could say "earth, wind & fire". ![]() |

Re: David Gray warns on torture music
I posted it because it made me laugh, rather than a political "anti-american" statement ( hopefully comparing it to waterboarding showed I wasnt being totally serious ) but as Gray says its not really a laughing matter.
Im pretty shocked by some of the responses posted though. Very worrying. |

Re: David Gray warns on torture music
Oh...Not disco music...I'm right there with you Begbie.
I just don't think David Gray realises, what kind of people this so called "torture" targets, lol. He's kind of acting as if it's done to normal, regular, innocent people, lol.I understand why you posted it though spaceman, lol. It's funny that he kind of makes fun of his own music in a way...Personally,if i was handcuffed, and had a bag over my face, and they were playing good loud music,i'd be fine, but crappy music, like David Gray's,and ooo... |

Re: David Gray warns on torture music
Many of the people in gitmo are innocent though ( admittedly not all ) Many were captured because of bounties that the US offered for captured Taliban. Remember the Taliban are not terrorists - yes the gave sactuary to Al qaeda, yes they practice a particularly oppresive form of Islam, but it wasnt them who carried out the 9/11 attacks. They are seen by many Afghans ( not all ) as freedom fighters, who fought off the soviet invasion and who are now trying to fight off the allied invasion.
They basically ruled Afghanistan in 2001 - if you fight against a foreign force invading your country, does that make you a terrorist? As for torture it is proven to be a very ineffective form of interrogation as well as being WRONG WRONG WRONG under ANY circumstances. |

Heres a simple situation for you, you caught a guy that was hiding in a house that had "freedom fighters" in it and he had a magazine in his pocket, now you can beat the shit out of him and he'll tell you where his buddies are or you can nicely ask him where his friends placed a IED. How do you think hes going to answer? | ||||
